Orientation

Orientation

The orientation session introduces you to mindfulness, gives you a general view of the MBTI™ programme and details the time commitment required. We also engage in a short practice and begin to dispel the myths surrounding hyperacusis and tinnitus.

Class One

Class One

No matter how great a burden your hearing condition might appear to be, your difficulties can be worked with. Begin your eight-week course by embedding a 45min mindfulness practice known as the Body Scan into your daily routine and familiarise yourself with some of our recommended tinnitus management ideas.

Class Two

Class Two

Class Two highlights perception and response. How you 'view' things largely determines how you respond to them. It also explains why and how we can contemplate rolling out the red carpet for our tinnitus and/or hyperacusis. We also spend time on sleep and help you reframe your connection to stress thus enhancing your ability to recover from acute stress and positively influence your long and short-term health.

Class Three

Class Three

Class Three applies your new-found ability to choose where your attention goes, and even to welcome that which ails you most with equanimity. Using a longer experience of formal movement and sitting practice, you become your own scientist and investigate your experience of perceived-positive or perceived-negative sensations in the body.

Class Four

Class Four

Reacting to tinnitus instead of contemplating and responding to it causes suffering. By practising mindfulness, we cultivate curiosity and openness to the full range of our oftentimes over-conditioned and reactive experience. Through this process, we cultivate the ability to step out of automatic habitual stress reactivity and find new ways to relate to internal hearing loss related stress and also external stressful moments and any other internal or external events not necessarily related to your hearing condition.

Class Five

Class Five

As you reach the halfway point and before your second round of audiological testing you will look back at the ways you used to cope with adverse situations. Perhaps you used escape and denial, or the shadow side of conditioned coping patterns: substance dependency and numbing/suppression of feelings. Stepping away from these hitherto 'successful' coping mechanisms and into a more evolutionary taxis applies not only to your hearing, but also a potential new way of life.

Midway Testing

Midway Testing

At the halfway point you will retake all your initial audiological testing including: a hearing, post otoacoustic emissions and tinnitus matching. These results - and the final round of testing at the end - will be used to chart your progress through the programme and fine tune your audiological prescription. ***Raúl - more test names here and more detail***

Class Six

Class Six

Develop the tools to communicate with those who may not understand why you feel the way you do about your hearing condition. Express yourself more accurately and develop a greater awareness of interpersonal communication and the barriers to developing this awareness. Interpersonal mindfulness: staying aware and balanced in relationships, especially under conditions of acute or chronic stress and in the face of misinterpretation by others of tinnitus and/or hearing loss.

All Day Class

All Day Class

Cultivate a much deeper sense of presence from moment to moment, and be open to not just tinnitus or any other kind of hearing condition but any experience whether evaluated as pleasant, unpleasant or neutral. See these moments as an opportunity to practice mindful attention. Participants re-meet and re-engage their core-self in this highly introspective day-long session of formal movement and sitting practices.

Class Seven

Class Seven

Integrate mindful practice more fully and personally into your daily life by choosing and defining your own formal practices and unique routines. Participants are asked to personally reflect on lifestyle choices that are adaptive and self-nourishing as well as those that are not. In Class Seven we look at how self-critical behaviour (especially with regard to hearing conditions) has shaped our past way of thinking and compare and contrast it to a more mindful approach for the future.

Class Eight

Class Eight

Keep up the momentum and discipline developed over the previous nine weeks. Review supportive and integrative books, recordings, graduate programmes, free All Day Sessions and Retreat Centres for further development and discovery. Clarify any lingering questions about the practices and their applications in real life. Review and reflect upon all available tinnitus treatments and your own experience with those you used during the course.

Final Testing

Final Testing

Then final battery of audiological testing including: a hearing test, post otoacoustic emissions test and tinnitus matching. ***Raúl - more test names here and more detail***

Final Consultation

Final Consultation

Discuss your progress, analyse your metrics from your three examinations, compile results from the questionnaires and outline treatment options for the future and the new self-made resources available to you. ***Raúl - more test names here and more detail***
